Small Groups - FAQ

Why should I join a small group?
We believe you can only grow so far in your spiritually journey without others. Being in a group will help you develop lasting friendships that will encourage more Christ-likeness than if you were on your own. Also, groups are just a great place to make friends and realize you are not alone in whatever situation you're going through. Groups celebrate successes and help each other through the tough times.

Do I have to be a member of The Highlands Church to join a small group?
No way. Groups are for anyone and everyone who's interested in becoming more like Jesus Christ and growing in their faith.

What happens at a small group meeting?
We handle snakes. JUST KIDDING!!!! OK, take a deep breathe and relax...that was a joke!! Seriously, it depends on the group. Some groups share a meal and catch up with each other; while others simply have snacks and hang out for a while. Each group selects there own curriculum to study, but periodically our church will have a special emphasis that's tied to Sunday's messages. The study portion of a small group can last from 40 minutes to an hour and a half. A small group discussion is just that...a discussion. Our leaders facilitate conversation, they don't preach! It isn't a bunch of theological jargon that only a few can understand. A small group is for everyone at every point in their journey. Then the groups move into a time of prayer (No, you won't be forced to pray out loud). Then they hang out for a little while and go home.

Where do small groups meet?
They meet all over our area in host homes.

Is there childcare available?
It depends on the group. Some groups have offered childcare while others didn't need it.

What if I don't like the first group I try?
Try another one! We understand that every person is not going to click the first night, so we ask that you hang in your group for at least 4 weeks. Usually after 4 weeks of consistently attending most groups will gel, but by all means if you want to try a new group...go for it. If you'd like some help finding a new group just let us know. Email us at .

Can I start my own group?
We are always looking for new leaders and hosts. We would love to get your information and talk with you about starting a group at some point. We have strategic times in the year when we launch a lot of groups so email us at the above email address and let us know of your interest and we'll contact you ASAP.

How do I get into a group?
There's a couple of different ways. The easiest is to ask a friend who's in a small group if you can go with them to their group. Another option is to sign up for ReGroup.
